Raiders Add Spires

The Raiders added veteran defensive end Greg Spires to the defensive corps on Tuesday. Spires has 39.5 sacks in his 10-year career. He saw action in 10 games last year with Tampa Bay. A calf injury sidelined him for 6 games.

Spires had eight sacks in 2004 for the Bucs.

The Raiders also signed receiver Marcel Reece, an undrafted rookie from Washington.

Oakland also cut veteran cornerback Duane Starks and waived undrafted free agent fullback Matt Hahn.

Sapp says McFadden was the right choice

Michael Silver, aka the best football writer in the NFL, writes about a conversation he had with Warren Sapp on Monday regarding the draft in a Yahoo Sports column.

“I understand that (coach) Lane Kiffin and (offensive coordinator) Gregg Knapp are supposed to be these guys who make their living by throwing the ball,” Sapp said. “But our offense is made for downhill guys. And this kid will make that offense go.”

Read more of Sapp's comments in the complete article.

And oh, I do intend to post more often. I'm almost over my 2007 season hangover.
