I hardly think we're talking "nickels and dimes" in these negotiations. We're talking about a stupid amount of money for someone who has never taken an NFL snap. The Raiders are well within their rights to work the deal to their advantage. Someone who is paying someone else $60 million for a few years of playing football should expect some leverage in the deal. Not expect to bend over and take it a la Ryan Leaf. The Raiders have time on their side. If the Raiders and the agent can't agree on a contract and Russell was to re-enter next years draft, it would cost Russell and his agent millions of dollars. There is no guarantee Russell will be the first pick in next years draft. The agent can talk and threaten all he wants, but if the agent doesn't get Russell signed this year he will be history. Russell will fire him immediately for the lost millions Russell will incur. Russell will sign, maybe late, but there is no way the agent lets Russell go into next years draft, and the Raiders know it. The Raiders don't need to sign Russell until later, so there is no hurry in signing a contract. Let the agent sweat. The Raiders will work the agent because he has a problem, not the Raiders.
